Referrals to Specialist Office Procedure:

Must be seen and authorized by your Primary Care Physician

Referrals will not be retroactively approved once the visit occurs.

Many insurance companies require that a referral be completed prior to having specialty care provided, i.e.: seeing a specialist physician, having x-rays or other diagnostic testing done, etc. If the referral is not obtained from the insurance company, then you the patient will be responsible for the full balance of all incurred charges at the specialist office.

Reichman, Brown, and Kaplan's Doctors are a group of generalist who provide primary care for our community. Our Doctors are well trained in all aspects of Pediatric Medicine. In order for a referral to a Pediatric sub specialist to be approved one of our Physicians must first see your child and determine if the referral is Medically warranted.  We will  not retroactively approve a referrals after the visit to the specialist has already occurred.

If your insurance plan requires our office to fill out the referral paperwork, please inform us at least one week in advance of you scheduled appointment. It is nearly impossible to get the referrals completed on the same day basis. Our referral person is available ton Tuesdays and Fridays only to complete referral. Even if our staff coo complete referrals request in a timely fashion, but many times the insurance companies take a long time to give us an authorization number.

Due to the large numbers or insurance companies and the intricate rules of each and every one, this makes it impossible for us to know the details of your particular individual insurance plan. It is your responsibility to keep us informed of updated plan policies and to make sure that the sub specialist that you are going to see is still a participating provider for the insurance company. Any time that you need to seek care outside our office, please double check you insurance handbook and provider directory.

Once you have an appointment, please contact our referral staff so that they can proceed with obtaining the referral. You can either call our office or complete the online referral request using the communication portal Relayhealth.com

Depending on your insurance, some referrals can be directly sent electronically to your specialist; however, some paper referrals must be pick-up at our office. We cannot mail them to you because of the HIPPA regulations.

We require five-business days notice to your appointment time in order to obtain the referral.
