RBK Pediatrics Childhood Weight Management Program

Since 1980 there has been a dramatic increase in childhood obesity among 6-11 year olds in the United States.  Although the causes are many and may seem insurmountable for parents to battle alone, we at RBK Pediatrics are here to help.

In order to help you and your child manage their weight issues all little bit better, RBK Pediatrics has partnered with weighcool.com and created the:

RBK Pediatrics Childhood Weight Management Program

A few gradual lifestyle changes can go far in curtailing a child’s weight gain and improve their ultimate health and longevity. With the medical supervision of our doctors, online physician moderated group support, and educational training, maybe together we combat the growing epidemic of pediatric obesity.

If you feel that your child will benefit from our Pediatric Weight Management Program, speak with one of our physicians or staff members to set up an initial consultation appointment.

You can also request a consultation appointment via our Internet Communication portal relayhealth.com

In order to request an online appointment, you first must be registered.

What can I as a parent do to help my child at home until we get an appointment?

Create an active home environment:

Limit screen time (TV/Video/Games) to only one-two hours a day.  Studies have shown the more TV time a child has per day the more obese they become. Decreasing TV time results in more weight loss than increasing their physical exercise alone.

Make time for regular physical activity for the whole family.  Try walking, bicycling or running.

Assign appropriate chores that require physical activity to every child. Vacuuming, washing the car or mowing the lawn not only uses calories, but also they can instill a sense of accomplishment and responsibility in kids.

Create a Healthy Eating Environment:

Do not use food as a reward or lack of it as a punishment

Avoid high fat foods, supersized portions or excessive snacking and grazing on junk foods

Avoid rushed meals or other activities at mealtime such as TV

Create healthy meals for the entire family, not just for select individuals
